Guests coming for Christmas...?

If you have guests this Christmas or new year, or have tenants moving in or out, you'll like these top tips for a sparkling home from Tip-Top Cleaning. They're also offering readers a 10% discount off all private and pre/post tenancy cleans up to 31st Jan. Now is the perfect time to make sure your home looks tip-top!

1. Get out that feather duster, or use your vacuum (with brush attachment) to wipe away all those cobwebs. You may be surprised how many are lurking in all corners!
2. The bathroom – there’s no getting away from it, it’s the room that everyone uses.  Most bathroom cleaners are good, and buff up with an old dry towel for that extra shine. Your guests will be impressed! Don’t forget to wipe all four corners of the floor – this is where dust and fluff collects!
3. Windows – use bleach & water solution to clean away any mould residue build-up around the edges, and wash with Flash or supermarket equivalent, and dry glass ensuring no smears.
4. The kitchen – baked bean splattered microwave? The best way to clean a microwave is to put a bowl of hot water in your microwave with half a lemon in it and set the microwave for five minutes. The steam will enable you to wipe more easily any bits of crusty food and the lemon will help deodorise any bad smells.
5. Throw away any out of date food that may be lurking at the back of the cupboards and fridge to make way for all those Christmas goodies! A new tub of baking powder in your fridge will absorb odours.
6. Tackle your oven – those oven-cleaning bags are best. Soak trays, and sponge on solution to sides and bottom of oven, and leave all overnight rinse clean the next day. Wire scourers are best for removing stubborn burnt on marks from the racks.
7. Don’t forget the cooker/extractor hood. Wash using Flash or the supermarket equivalent and hot water.
8. Pet hairs – wear a damp rubber glove (one with nobbles on it is best) and rub your hand across the surface you wish to de-hair; you will be amazed (and horrified) at the amount of hair which comes up. This technique works best on sofas and stair carpets. (This is only if you haven’t got a super-duper vacuum).
9. Carpets – to ensure you have fresh, clean carpets sprinkle some baking powder/soda over your carpets and leave for half an hour before vacuuming up.
10. Finally for a lovely Christmassy smell in your home spray some pine cones with a cinnamon or clove scented oil.

Well, we hope that this has been helpful, although we're also sure that your home is immaculate anyway! But if you do want some help, please call Fay at Tip-Top Cleaning on 07594 365052 or email faytip@yahoo.co.uk - and don't forget, there's 10% off every order before the end of January, only for readers of the Phillip Mann newsletter.
