Fancy becoming a property developer?

The government has recently launched a new £3bn scheme called the Home Building Fund aimed to ‘increase the number of new homes being built in England’.

Yo! The apartment of the future?

Founder of the Yo! Sushi chain, Simon Woodroffe, has launched a propotype that “demonstrates what can be done when you use mechanics within a home”.

Think tables rising from the floor, the ceiling dropping down to form the bedroom and many more clever tricks that he hopes will become the home of the future for city-dwellers across the world.

Tighter buy-to-let lending from 2017

The Bank of England has tightened the regulations for lending to buy-to-let investors.

Under the new rules, lenders must set tougher standards for approving buy-to-let loans including affordability checks and ‘stress tests’ should the interest rate rise to 5.5%.

In terms of affordability, the Bank is recommending that rental income equals 125% of the mortgage payment.

These changes are likely to be introduced from January 1 with more complex changes from September 30 next year.

They follow changes brought in by former chancellor George Osborne to limit the tax relief that can be claimed on mortgage interest payments, which take effect in 2017, and also follow a 3% surcharge on the stamp duty for second or buy-to-let homes.

Japanese Knotweed: is it really a big problem?

Japanese Knotweed is capable of doing serious damage to buildings, lifting concrete and undermining walls and foundations if left to its own devices and it has long been a criminal offence to deliberately plant it in the wild.

It's back!! Our annual fundraising event to raise money to support local people affected by domestic abuse is a firm favourite on the running calendar.

The 8K Undercliff Run for Women is a scenic run along the seashore, alongside Sussex's famous chalk cliffs, from Saltdean towards Brighton and back. The run is RISE's signature, annual, fundraising event raising money to help survivors of domestic abuse in Sussex. Donations and sponsorship help local families affected by domestic abuse.

We ask that each entrant commits to raising at least £20. You can pay this with a special entry fee, make a donation through your entry, or raise sponsorship.

If you manage to raise over £150 we will send you a free RISE technical running vest after the event.

Each entrant will get:
· A souvenir t-shirt
· Running Bib Personalisation
· Chip timing
· An extra special goody bag
· A shiny finisher's medal!

We always like to encourage 'dressing up' as it adds to the party atmosphere - so get together with your friends and choose your costume!

4 x 2K Relay: if 8K seems a few steps too far how about a relay team? Grab 3 friends and run 2K each. You will have a shiny baton to pass - it might even be the first rung on your running ladder.

It's also a profound insight into the world of the deaf. The whole idea behind the film is deep and original, it will make you think twice about life.
